GR1 GR2 GR3 Titanium Tube ASTM B337 for General Corrosion Resisting
The ASTM B337 specification encompasses eight grades of titanium tube, which include grades GR1, GR2, GR3, GR7, GR9, GR10, GR11, and GR12. These grades are applicable to both seamless and welded titanium tubes that are designed for applications requiring corrosion resistance and the ability to withstand elevated temperatures.
Product Introduction
The ASTM B337 specification for titanium tube allows for the production of seamless titanium tubes using any method that results in a product meeting the specified requirements, including cold-rolled methods.
In addition to seamless tubes, this specification also covers welded titanium tubes, which must be produced from flat-rolled products using an arc-welding process that ensures the final product meets the necessary standards. When filler metal is used during the welding process, it must either match the grade of the base metal or be the next lower strength grade for welding Grades 2 and 3. For the higher grades such as 7, 9, 10, 11, and 12, the filler metal must be of the same grade as specified. Welded pipes may undergo further reduction processes.
Furthermore, the condition in which these tubes are supplied is dependent on the grade. Most are to be furnished in an annealed state for best results. However, Grade 9 has the flexibility to be provided either annealed or stress-relief annealed, while Grade 10 must be solution treated to meet the required conditions outlined in the ASTM B337 specification.

The finished ASTM B337 titanium tubes must be reasonably straight with smooth ends, free from burrs, and should not have any harmful external or internal defects that could impede their intended use. While minor defects may be addressed, ensuring that the dimensional tolerances as per the provided table are not exceeded, the pipes should be delivered without scale unless otherwise specified.
ASTM B337 titanium tubes possess high thermal strength, allowing them to operate in environments where temperatures are several hundred degrees higher than what would be suitable for aluminum alloys. Even at such elevated temperatures, these titanium tubes retain the necessary strength across a range of medium to varying temperatures. They can effectively function for extended periods at temperatures between 450-500°C. In contrast, research has shown that while they have a very high specific strength, the specific strength of aluminum alloys significantly reduces at temperatures starting from 150°C. The working temperature limit for ASTM B337 titanium tubes can reach up to 500°C, whereas the working temperature for aluminum alloy materials typically remains below 200°C.
